We are opening a new location at Sylvan | Thirty in early 2013!

We are proud to announce that we will be opening another Pearl Cup location early next year at Sylvan | Thirty.
Our official press release:
Pearl Cup Coffee To Open at Sylvan | Thirty
Locally-owned, specialty coffee shop to open early 2013 at the North Oak Cliff/West Dallas mixed-use development
Dallas, February 20, 2012 - Local specialty coffee shop Pearl Cup Coffee has announced it will open a new location in early 2013 at Sylvan | Thirty, the highly anticipated mixed-use development currently under construction at the crossroads of North Oak Cliff and West Dallas. It will be Dallas-based Pearl Cup Coffee’s third location and will occupy the 2,000-square foot corner space facing the intersection of Sylvan Avenue and I-30 frontage road. The coffee shop will feature a roll-up garage door, exposing the interior space to an expansive patio.
Founded in 2007 by partners Carlene Saelg and Rita Davis, the specialty coffee shop seeks to provide the most ethically sourced coffee in a space that reflects their sustainable commitment to green building practices.
“Being a green company is a choice we make out of our own personal commitment to do our part for a healthy planet,” said Saelg. “We appreciate that Sylvan | Thirty is seeking LEED certification — that’s something that resonates with our brand — and we think we’re a great fit with the other local and independent concepts that have committed to the project. We simply love making great coffee and want to become a community gathering place for the neighborhood.”
“Pearl Cup Coffee is going to be a great meeting place the area, particularly for folks walking up the Coombs Creek Trail from Kessler Park,” said Brent Jackson, president of Sylvan | Thirty developer Oaxaca Interests. “Their shop reinforces our commitment to local, community-focused businesses. Their dedication to environmentally conscious business practices and desire to embrace the surrounding neighborhood makes them a perfect fit for Sylvan | Thirty.”
Pearl Cup Coffee is the fourth tenant at Sylvan | Thirty to be announced. Other announced tenants include farm-fresh grocer Cox Farms Market, artisan butcher and wine shop Matador Meat & Wine and a culinary incubator helmed by chef Sharon Hage.
We are very excited to be able to finally announce this and we hope to see you at the grand opening!
Read More »We believe in Coffee

At The Pearl Cup, we believe in coffee. In fact, we believe in it so strongly that we want to provide the very best possible experience in partaking of this beverage. That is why we offer three different roasts when you come to our shop. Our goal to satisfy our customers when not everyone has the same preferences in coffee can be challenging. This is why we give you options so that a perfect cup is always possible. A little more information on the subject from our website:
We are a “3rd Generation” or “Third Wave” coffee shop, which simply means that we are a shop committed to custom drink flavor profiles that truly allow the taste of GREAT espresso to shine through, to be the star of the latte! You will taste the wonderful, perfectly extracted espresso through the steamed milk of the latte. This is important! Nobody wants a 20oz cup of steamed milk with the only a hint of coffee flavor.
You can expect to find a traditional size cappuccino and our largest latte is 16 ounces. These drinks are typically served with two shots of espresso unless, of course, you ask for more.
This commitment to flavor profiles also lies in the Roasters we choose! If you look behind the cup you will see Master Roasters that have forged relationships with the farms from which they source their coffee or in some cases own the farm.
This means they get the “pick” of the harvest and pay above “fair trade” for the beans. Those beautiful, directly sourced beans are then roasted in small batches or micro lots to precise specifications.
To learn more about the different roasts that we have to offer, please visit the “Our Coffee” page on our main website.

We’ve been getting some attention lately from our online friends and we’d like to say thanks!
On Modern Dallas, Kerrie Sparks took the time to interview us for her article “Find Your Niche and Get your Caffeine Fix!”
She opened her article with this glowing set up of The Pearl Cup:
We’ve been exploring Dallas niches lately, and we sure do love the digs over at The
Pearl Cup. Two lovely ladies who hail from Austin, Rita Davis and Carlene Saelg, are
making their dreams come true—and garnering quite a fan base—as they make
their stake in Dallas.
She asks us a great set of questions running the gamut from how we chose our location to what our favorite menu items are. She wraps up her interview saying;
…there you have it. Hitch up your MacBook, grab a book, or maybe those stacks of
magazines collecting dust on your dining room table, and visit Rita and Carlene at The
Pearl Cup. They’ll be nice to you, I swear. You can while away the day sipping your
addiction of choice as you “work from home” (read: updating FaceBook and LinkedIn),
and they won’t even kick you out! Mi casa es su caffeinated casa!
Errr, whatever, you get it.
Thank you Kerrie! We had a great time in the interview and hope to see you again soon!

In a special travel article about Dallas, Tavaner Sullivan of Culture Map: Austin write about some of his favorite places to be in Dallas, and The Pearl Cup is one of them! He writes a quick description of The Pearl Cup Saying;
For a break in your usual Starbucks routine, check out The Pearl Cup and its Pearl Latte, voted best latte by D Magazine in 2009. In 2007, owners Carlene Saelg and Rita Davis moved from Austin to Dallas. Longing for a coffee shop with a unique coffee community and culture, they created The Pearl Cup. Dedicated to great tasting coffee, you won’t find over-sized coffee beverages here — the cappuccino is the traditional five to six ounces and the largest latte is 16 ounces.
Thanks for taking notice of us on your travels, Tavarner; be sure and swing by next time you’re in town.
The folks over at Dallas On a Budget took the time to review a visit to The Pearl Cup and here’s what they had to say:
I immediately felt right at home, as if this is where I should be… Everyone in the young crowd was either tweeting, blogging, reading, Facebooking, or studying. It was immediately clear that The Pearl Cup was the place to be: A trendy coffee shop where local urbanites can be seen (or be alone) rather than to see others; a Henderson hangout that feels cool and, actually, is cool.
They go on to write about our offerings.
The drink selection was reminiscent of the shop itself: Unique, eclectic, and items every young urban enjoys. There’s a little bit of something for everyone, no matter what your preferences are… I found the quality of the expresso beans to be superior to that of Starbucks, and tastier too. They were perfectly roasted it didn’t have that classic Starbucks slightly-burned flavor.
The piece wraps up with;
All in all, The Pearl Cup was a great experience… The Pearl Cup is truly a cool coffee shop to go to if you are in Dallas On A Budget. I’ll definitely be returning soon.
Thanks Dallas On A Budget, we hope you do!
We would like to thank these and any other websites who have taken time to write about us. We are grateful that you found us worthy of your pen… or keyboard, as it were.

D Magazine has noticed us in a big way in the last few years and we just want to say thank you!

In 2009, D Magazine ranked The Pearl Cup as Best of Big D 2009: Best Latte. Our Pearl Latte won them over and just one year later, we did it again when D Magazine named us Best of Big D 2010: Best Coffeehouse! They commented that:
A great coffeehouse is more than a strong brew. It’s a cafe society. At the Pearl Cup, suit-and-tie commuters and horn-rimmed creatives rub elbows at communal tables, sipping, tweeting, and discussing the subtle differences between the Pearl Cup’s three espresso roasts…
We love our clientele, and so does D Magazine! In the most recent Best of Big D 2011, we won over the readers, winning the Readers’ Choice for Best Coffeehouse. Thank you to all who voted, it means a lot to us, and thank you to D Magazine for continuing to take notice of us.
